Does IVF Increase Your Breast Cancer Risk?

Researches in Western Australia found that it does for women who started fertility treatments at 24 years old or younger.  This group was 1 1/2 times more likely to development breast cancer than women who didn't have any fertility treatments when they were 24 or younger.

The study also concluded that IVF treatment is NOT linked to an increased risk of breast cancer when analyzing the general population of patients.

  1. Some breast cancers are sensitive to hormones such as estrogen and/or progesterone, which makes it possible to treat them by blocking the effects of these hormones.

  2. It is just a rumor that IVF treatment increases the chances of breast cancer. I've consulted with many doctors and they said it is not true.
